Dental Insurance Closing Gaps Left by Medicare Advantage Coverage

PR Newswire

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- DentalInsurance.com, the leading website to compare dental insurance plans, is responding to issues with Medicare Advantage dental benefits with an outreach program that helps seniors evaluate their dental benefits and find supplemental dental coverage when their Medicare Advantage benefits are inadequate.

In July of this year, the American Dental Association (ADA) submitted a letter to a House Ways and Means subcommittee holding hearings on Medicare Advantage. The ADA letter complained that current Medicare Advantage dental benefits are "often highly variable, limited in scope, and lacking transparency and consistency, ultimately falling short of serving patients' best interests. In practice, dentists and patients should be able to easily understand what services are covered and submit claims (or payments) without undue complexity." Some of these plans, they note, fail to disclose the annual maximum benefit limit as well as which dental procedures are covered. Others have dentist networks that can make it difficult for seniors to find in-network care.

DentalInsurance.com has published a new article, 5 Questions to Ask about Your Medicare Advantage Dental Benefits. The article has a simple checklist of questions that help reveal whether a Medicare Advantage plan's dental benefits meet a senior's personal needs. If they don't, there is guidance on how to shop for full coverage dental insurance along with a list of plans in each state that have comprehensive dental benefits. Additionally, the article also discusses dental plans that bundle dental benefits with hearing and vision benefits, all of which are not covered under Original Medicare Parts A and B. DentalInsurance.com also provides free access to live agents who can answer a senior's dental insurance questions and assist with enrollment if needed. These live agents are available from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time every Monday through Friday (except holidays).

"Senior oral care is exceptionally important," noted DentalInsurance.com CEO Mark Kelsey, "and quality dental insurance encourages regular visits to the dentist that keep a mouth healthy." Kelsey further noted that "poor oral health can result in tooth loss, and tooth loss, in turn, can present problems for chewing. If difficulties chewing make a senior avoid certain foods then nutritional problems can result." Avery Smith, president of DentalInsurance.com, added, "seniors value good dental insurance. Our own data finds that seniors keep their dental plan three to four times longer than our younger customers."

Launched in 2001 by Mark Kelsey, DentalInsurance.com is the pioneer of the online dental insurance marketplaces. With licensed agents, educational content, and a wide selection of PPO and HMO plans, the site serves individuals, families, and small businesses nationwide. DentalInsurance.com is headquartered in Los Angeles, California, and has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and 4.8 stars out of 5 on TrustPilot.
